NEW Head Honcho for F&W

Postby Harry Vanderweide » Thu Jul 29, 2010 8:46 pm

We'll be seeing some new commissioners next year at Maine Natural Resource agencies.

Please tell us who and why you'd like to see as the the Fish and Wildlife Commissioner?

Marine Resources?

Conservation?

Bucky Owen because he is not afraid to take a stand for what he believes in

I.F.& W. = Don Kleiner

D.O.C. = Don't know

D.M.R. = abolish that dept, or reduce it to a law enforcement agency only.

I have to say that Don Kleiner for DIF&W Commissioner never crossed my mind, but now that you bring his name up, I think he'd be great on the job, and it would shake the department to no end. —Harry

A shakeup is exactly what they need.

IF&W has too long been an incestuous organization, a promote from within good old boys club. Even the well intentioned folks received the same training from the same schools, for the most part.

Stop the ridiculous practice of political appointees heading this outfit. Post the position nationwide, hire the best and most qualified applicant.

I would admit, Don Kleiner would make me happier than anyone within the current IF&W. There is not a single person working at IF&W now that I'd like to see head the department

A return of Bucky? One could only hope.

We should advertise nation wide and not promote or appoint from within. Look for a person from a state with good deer success like New York state, or the mid-west. Behind every successful program there are a few people that are the core to the organizations' success, mid-management guys and gals. That's who we need.

Not of fan of Bucky. It will most likely be another political appointee, especially if Mitchell wins. It does not appear that this election bodes well for a quality person leading the department for the next four years.

So far, I can't decide which candidate would do the least damage to IF&W.

The initial names Mitchell bantied about had a few names that would hurt IF&W for sure. Lepage I don't trust to do anything right. It will be interesting to see what Cutler has to say.

Bucky brought fisheries management light years ahead in this State. The current administration at IF&W has taken fisheries backwards, unraveling much of the good Bucky did.

We need to stop the political appointment process in regards to IF&W for sure.

Paul Jacques for IFW with John Whalen as Deputy. I like Bucky as a person, but I don't think he should go back to IFW.

No way I could see this being a positive for the Department.
