“Interview with Bigfoot” Highlights April-Foolery; plus 2020 Fish Stocking List, ATVs, Boating and More!
Stress levels are as high as springtime streams, many readers are “sheltering in” – what better time to relax with the April issue of The Maine Sportsman and take your mind off health-related concerns for a little while?
It’s our first-ever April Fool’s Special Issue, which kicks off on page 44 with “Interview with Bigfoot,” in which our cover photo model and favorite paranormal beast discusses his college years, the Sasquatch dating scene, the challenge of buying clothes, and his friendships with “Nessie” the Loch Ness Monster, and “Swampsquatch,” an odiferous southern cousin.
The frivolity continues for several pages, including photos of the most recent Game Warden recruits, the tale of Jon Luoma’s successful zucchini hunt (“It was either them, or me”), a new “Advice for Men” feature, Kate’s recipe for “tag stew,” and Al Diamon’s first-ever appearance in these pages, exploring whether “crappie jigging” should be discussed in polite company.
Also in this issue – 13 pages (that’s huge!) featuring Maine’s fish-stocking list, grouped by county and alphabetically by pond, stream, lake or river. Our state’s hatcheries and their employees do an amazing job stocking 1.2 million fish each year – the least we can do is get out there and catch some of them!
Also this month’s massive 92-page (biggest in New England!) issue:
- • Smallmouth in the Androscoggin River
- • Barry Gibson on repowering your boat
- • Axe-throwing as a barroom sport (really!)
- • Steve Carpenteri on fishing from a pontoon boat
- • ATVers getting ready for the season, and
- • Joe Saltalamachia talking turkey – cooking turkey, that is.
