Celebrating Maine’s Moose Hunt
Depending on which week the 3,135 lucky winners of Maine 2020 moose permits were drawn for, their season begins September 28, October 12, October 26 or (for districts centered in Bridgton and Belgrade) November 2. Hunters and their subpermittees will be searching for our state’s largest land animal, of which there are an estimated 65,000 in this state – more moose than any other of the “Lower 48” states.
To provide information and inspiration, the 88-page (count ’em!) October, 2020 issue of The Maine Sportsman features a huge bull on the cover (photo by Mainer Mark Picard), and carries moose-related articles and columns by such luminaries as William Clunie, Jim Andrews and Ethan Emerson. Even our “Wild Kitchen” chef, Kate Krukowski Gooding, gets in in the action with her recipe for “Cumin-rubbed Moose Burgers with Cabernet Ketchup” – mmmmm!
But wait – there’s more! The Sportsman features our first-ever publication-to-website connection with Blaine Cardilli’s “Strategies for Calling In Fall Turkeys” (page 41), while our website and Facebook page offers a short video tutorial produced just for us of Blaine demonstrating his expert calling techniques.
With whitetail season soon upon us, we’ve also included plenty of deer content this month, such as Steve Carpenteri’s column on sighting in your rifle, Joe Saltalamachia on unraveling the secret life of big bucks, and Val Marquez on locating deer in York County.
All this, and ATVs, a cast-and-blast adventure with Christi Holmes, and even a winter 2020-2021 snowmobile preview!
So pick up a copy of the issue at your local store, order a subscription by clicking here, or by calling 207 622-4242.
Thank you for your continued readership support, and please take care of yourselves while enjoying all that Maine – and The Maine Sportsman – have to offer.
