It’s Whitetail Archery Time!
There’s a breath of autumn coolness in the air, and the leaves of hardwoods are starting to turn. Archers and crossbow hunters are tuning up and sighting in their equipment, in the hopes of coming face-to-face with a huge Maine buck, like the one gracing the cover of The Maine Sportsman’s October, 2021 issue.
.
Expanded archery season for whitetail deer got underway in selected areas in mid-September, and Maine’s regular archery season runs October 2 – October 29. Again this year, hunters may use crossbows during regular archery season. In this month’s “Big Game Hunting” column, Joe Saltalamachia reveals that early-season bowhunting is productive, before big bucks and bonus does change their late-summer travel and feeding patterns.
.
Are you in good physical shape? Really good shape? Do you want an ultimate whitetail challenge? Read Dr. Birney Dibble’s column, “Running Down a Deer.” It can be done, he says, and he’s done it not once, but twice!
.
The Sportsman is not a travel guide, but King Montgomery does his best to change that with an excellent overview of Greenville and environs, in his “Sportsman’s Journal” offering this month, “Moosehead Lake – A Family Place.”
