“Trust Your Guide”
“I recently shot my 1st bear after six years of hunting,” wrote Kelli Laflin of Readfield. “My husband is a guide and my brother is a guide, and my friends had tagged bear, but it took me a while.”
Year after year, Kelli – who had experience hunting deer, turkey and moose – persevered, despite not seeing a large bear.
After five years, at her husband’s suggestion, she tried a bear blind. It was there that she first saw this massive bear. On opening day of trapping season, she set a trap in the Rangeley region, and the next morning, she had her bear – a monster (253-lb) bruin that she registered it at River’s Edge, in Oquossoc, ME.
“Trust your guide,” she concluded in a note to The Sportsman. “Hunting in a blind may not have given me the shot I needed, but it gave me a chance to see the bear, and the courage to keep hunting for it.”
